In-camera meters use reflected light metering, measuring light bouncing off the subject.

The LightColor Meter, on the other hand, measures both direct and scattered light falling on the subject, providing readings that aren’t affected by the subject’s reflectivity.

This is especially valuable in high-contrast scenes, where in-camera metering can misjudge exposure, leading to under- or overexposed subjects. With the LightColor Meter, you gain more accurate exposure data and greater creative control.

How the Datacolor LightColor meter works?

1. Get the app: Download the free Datacolor LightColor Meter app, available for both iOS and Android, and sync it to your phone.
2. Set your meter: Turn on your meter and place it where you want to measure your light. Data is delivered via Bluetooth to your phone in real time, for accuracy even in fluctuating light conditions.
3. View the Colorgraph: Read the color temperature of your light (coolness or warmth measured in Kelvin) including its DUV so you can adjust your scene lighting and camera settings accordingly.
4. Adjust your exposure: With precise light and color temperature measurements, you can be confident your exposure settings are accurate so you can achieve the results you want.
