Fast autofocus
The fast APO-Vario-Elmarit-SL 90–280mm f/2.8–4 lens seamlessly extends the focal range of the Vario-Elmarit-SL 24–90mm f/2.8–4 ASPH., with these two lenses covering focal lengths from 24mm to 280mm.
Its newly designed dual internal focusing (DSD®) system ensures quick autofocus, while the optical image stabilization (OIS) effectively compensates for up to 3.5 stops of camera shake.
AF System with Dual Syncro Drive™
These lenses feature a fast, precise, and nearly silent autofocus system, enabled by a shared drive unit. The performance is influenced by the mass of the lens elements, the focusing range, and available space, with a compact design achieved through double internal focusing. This system uses two lightweight focusing lenses, allowing for small and efficient drive systems.
Equipped with powerful stepping motors and Dual Syncro Drive™ technology, the lenses achieve rapid, precise focusing in fractions of a second, offering top-tier performance in speed, accuracy, and noise control in the full-frame segment.

Of the 23 elements in seven moving groups, seven are made from glasses with anomalous partial dispersion for the minimisation of chromatic aberrations.
The movement of the two focusing elements is provided by a newly developed drive concept with linear positioning of the lenses by stepping motors.
A special feature of this is that the overall length of the lens does not change when either focusing or zooming.
